Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Put simply, hypnosis is an open state of mind that allows greater communication between the conscious and deeper parts of you.

Pioneer hypnotist Dr. Milton Erickson has defined hypnosis as “primarily a state in which there is increase responsiveness to ideas of all sorts.”  For example, if the idea is that you stop smoking or follow through with fulfilling your dreams, hypnosis is a state in which the deepest parts of you respond to those ideas by helping you to actualize them.

Modern day pioneer Cal Banyan defines hypnosis as “the bypass of the critical factor.”  The critical factor is like a barrier between the part of you that decides and the part of you that generates habits, feelings, emotions and beliefs.  Bypassing this barrier allows you to create changes on such a deep level.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is  a safe, natural state of mind that people pass through usually several times a day and there is no one way to “feel hypontized.”

It is quite common for people to feel focused, concentrated, joyful, confident, at ease, in synch, connected, grateful, powerful, at one with themselves, etc. while experiencing hypnosis.

Is it therapy?

Nope.  I am not a therapist and I don’t want to do therapy, which is commonly defined as “treatment of an illness or a disorder.”  Hypnosis empowers you and your body-mind’s natural healing mechanisms for sure, and it has many medical and psychological uses, but I only use hypnosis for medical or psychiatric work when in conjunction with a professional licensed in such a field.

For the most part, my work involves helping normal and reasonably healthy individuals become happier, stronger and more at ease in their lives.

How does one become a qualified hypnotist?

The best hypnotists are the ones who have devoted years to learning the theoretical and practical applications of hypnosis and this usually includes attending several trainings with active, qualified instructors, reading thoroughly on the various models of hypnosis as well as other models of personal change, and using self-hypnosis to successfully strengthen their own lives, and have a natural love of helping people.

I am certified by several organizations around the globe, but my primary qualification is my experience using effective hypnosis to help people like you improve their lives.

How effective is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a means that you can put to use effectively when you choose to.  Yoga, college degrees and hammers are all effective tools when used with the right amount of intention, planning, patience and follow through.

Specifically, hypnosis is effective for resolving normal everyday stress or anxiety almost 100% of the time, and effective for creating new and better responses to the world almost 100% of the time.  It’s easy to imagine how these kinds of internal changes naturally lead to  success with a broad range of goals.

How many sessions will I need to get the results I want?

After experiencing positive results in the first session, a couple more sessions are good for bringing the internal transformations to new levels of depth and giving you the tools you need to continue to make your life even better on your own.  I see most clients three times.

How much do I have to talk about the issue I want help with?

You don’t have to talk about it at all as long as it isn’t an issue that requires medical attention.  Many clients choose to keep the details of their challenges and goals private and then report back to me that the love the results they got.  Other clients feel more comfortable sharing this kind of information, and that’s fine.

Whatever you feel most comfortable with is the way to go.
